Most mornings, I stopped at the vegetable cart to chat with the women who had become part of my daily rhythm. One morning, he appeared—pausing, smiling, and with a twinkle in his eye asked, “You want to take my picture, don’t you?”

How could I resist such an invitation? What followed was a lighthearted jousting match of broken English, laughter, and playful banter before he continued on his way toward the Stupa with his rolled rugs slung over his shoulder.

Rug Salesman is a portrait of joy and spontaneity, a reminder that sometimes the most memorable moments of travel come from strangers who invite you—quite literally—into their story.
