Family at the Stupa
Nepal Portrait Collection
Name: Family Portrait at the Boudha Stupa
Date: Fall 2012
Country: Nepal
On my daily walks around the Boudha Stupa, I became familiar with the rhythms of shopkeepers, tourists, and pilgrims alike. Yet one day, amid the swirl of color and devotion, a family stood out from the crowd.
Generations gathered together—grandmother, daughters, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren—radiating pride and joy. Their visit was both pilgrimage and celebration, blending Buddhist and Hindu traditions in one of Nepal’s most sacred spaces.
The grandmother, dressed in bright colors that seemed to echo the spirit of the Stupa itself, stood proudly at the center, her happiness shining as brilliantly as her garments. Family Portrait at the Boudha Stupa preserves that moment of heritage, spirituality, and togetherness, serving as a timeless reminder of the family’s enduring bond.
