Riding on the back of a scooter around the winding roads of Nusa Penida, I looked down the hill towards the ocean to see boats leaving. One lone boy wading through waist-high water caught my attention. I could tell that he longed to go to sea with his father, that his dreams of the future were to grow up to and to grow into what his father represented to him. I watched him for the next minute as I made my way around the ocean’s edge, in the same way, he watched his father sail away.
