We would pass each other every afternoon – he with his bag of apples, me with my books and papers from teaching. For 50R I could grab a handful of the oddest shaped, best-tasting apples that I had ever experienced. For a couple of months, I had the sweetest nibbles of sunshine, then suddenly he was gone. The apple harvest was finished. I think I missed him more than most men I had dated.
